Project Type
Multi-Residential
Location
Montreal, QC
This architectural project stands out for its harmonious juxtaposition of heritage and modernity. On the left, a red-brick building with a neoclassical aesthetic embodies the city’s architectural heritage, featuring detailed cornices, white wrought-iron balconies, and symmetrical openings framed in white. The authenticity of the materials and the simplicity of the lines evoke the architecture of the early 20th century, establishing a warm and historic presence within the urban fabric.
In contrast, the right side of the building embraces a distinctly contemporary architectural language. The volumes are cleaner and more minimalist, while the lighter, smoother materials introduce modern textures such as vertical metal cladding and light-coloured brick. Expansive glazed openings allow natural light to flood the interiors while creating a strong visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Slender, linear rust-toned metal railings add an elegant industrial touch, subtly echoing the metal details of the historic building.
The project serves as an architectural bridge between two eras, avoiding both imitation and abrupt contrast. It celebrates the richness of the existing heritage while responding to the demands of contemporary living. This is an architecture of transition—a story expressed through materials and form—respecting the memory of the site while embracing a forward-looking vision.
